Training Grant Program
Information
The LGIT Training Grant Program
is developed to provide assistance to Members of the Trust who wish
to assist their employees with obtaining education and training to
advance their skills to reduce liability claims and property damage.
Training grant recipients will be eligible when attending seminars,
workshops, conferences, technical classes or other related training
programs.
-
LGIT only awards grants that are
intended to reduce the risk of losses covered by LGIT. Lines of
insurance coverage provided by LGIT are general liability, auto
liability, auto physical damage, public official liability, law
enforcement liability and property damage. LGIT does not
offer workers’ compensation coverage.
-
Grants are
only awarded if they will have a bearing on the Member’s
insurance coverage held with LGIT. For example, a member that
only has auto liability coverage with LGIT can only apply for
training grants that are intended to reduce the risk of auto
liability losses.
- A one-page summary, completed by
the Grant Applicant and Member, must be submitted with the
application describing how the training will assist the
applicant in performing their job duties and contribute to the
reduction of claims with LGIT.
-
Applicants must provide a
description of the training/event including costs, duration,
qualifications of the instructor/speaker, etc. Any other backup
information is appreciated. Expenses can include
transportation, hotel accommodations, meals and registration.
Expenses must be itemized.
- Applicants
may be asked to present or teach what they have learned to other
members of their local government or agency, or other LGIT
members.
- Applicants
that lead and allow other LGIT member local governments’
departments and agencies to attend the training will be given
preference. Applicants should list the LGIT members that will
be invited, how many seats will be available for these other
local governments, and describe the additional costs that may be
incurred by allowing other members to attend.
- Equipment and materials are ineligible for
funding unless directly related to the training.
- Videos are ineligible for funding. The LGIT
video library is available for free to members interested in
educational/training videos. The catalog is available at
www.lgit.org.
- The committee will follow up with grant
recipients within one year to review the use and effectiveness
of the grant award. Recipients agree to report on the use and
effectiveness of the grant received.
Failure to
return the completed questionnaire within 90 days of the
training’s implementation may result in a forfeiture of the
grant funds and possible ineligibility for future grant awards
for up to two years.
-
The Trust
will limit one (1) training grant award per local government per
fiscal year.
